DRAWINGS to be held OCTOBER 19, 2019!

3 Separate challenges for 2020!

Isolation Challenge #1:  September 7-13, 2020

Isolation Challenge #2:  September 13-19, 2020

Isolation Challenge #3:  September 19-25, 2020

Do you have what it takes to survive for a week on a remote lighthouse in the middle of northern Lake Michigan?

White Shoal Light is located 22 miles from the nearest harbor, 13 miles from the nearest boat ramp, and 7 miles from the nearest land (an abandoned island)!

The lighthouse is only accessible by boat and that can be a challenge on a good day!  There are 11 separate levels with over 5,000 square feet of interior space at the light station.

A few things to consider before applying:

  1.  You will be required to sign a lengthy waiver form if selected including such information as age, weight, current health condition, any medications.

  2. You should be able to lift up to 40 pounds and climb 100's of steps on a daily basis.

  3. You will be required to ascend & descend the 20-foot vertical ladder from the boat to the crib in order to access the structure.

  4. If selected, you will be required to pay a $500 transportation fee to participate.

  5. You will be trained and expected to run vital systems at the lighthouse.

  6. If you require removal from the structure for any reason other than an emergency, you will be charged an additional $500 transportation fee.

  7. You will need flexibility built into your schedule as our boat will not run in adverse sea conditions....meaning you could be stranded at the lighthouse for longer than anticipated.

There are two ways in which you can qualify for a 2020 Isolation Challenge:*

*You may only apply for one of the three weeks listed above

1.  Become a member of White Shoal Light HPS

OR

2. Make a donation to help further our preservation efforts

If you are already a member of WSLHPS, you can simply click the correct box on the form below.  If you are not a member and do not wish to become one, you can select the amount of your donation ($25 for singles, $50 for couples) and submit the form below.  You have the option of increasing your winning odds by increasing your donation amount.  For example, if you are an individual and donate $100, your name will be entered into the drawing 4 times ($100/$25 = 4) for the week you select.  If you are applying as a couple and donate $150, your name will be entered into the drawing 3 times ($150/$50 = 3).  You are only allowed to select 1 of the 3 challenges based on your availability to participate and only the names qualifying for a specific week will be included in that drawing.  Once you have submitted your form, you will receive an email confirmation within 24 hours and be directed to the next qualifying step.

WSLHPS will utilize an online application call randompicker to select the 3 winners.

All forms must be submitted by October 15, 2019 in order to qualify for a 2020 challenge.

White Shoal Light Historical Preservation Society (a nonprofit organization) was created in 2016 and tasked with the restoration and preservation of Michigan's most iconic lighthouse.

In an effort to raise funds for restoration, WSLHPS began offering limited tours and overnight stays in summer 2019.  We also offered a 1-week Isolation Challenge for one lucky participant to be dropped off and left 100% alone on the light station for a week or longer (depending on when the weather would allow us to return).

The 2019 Challenge was so successful that we have decided to offer 3 similar challenges scheduled for September 2020!

We have made a few changes for the 2020 season...including opening the challenges up to an individual or a couple.  We also eliminated the membership requirement for eligibility.  We are instead requiring a donation to register for 3 separate drawings.  Members still automatically qualify, but everyone must turn in all required forms by the due date in order to be placed in the drawings.  If selected to participate in one of the challenges, you will be required to provide your own food during your stay as well as pay the transportation fee ($500) to the light station.  You will have access to cell phone service and a marine radio while at the lighthouse.  You will also have access to electricity and running hot water.  There is a full bathroom and kitchen at the station.  Additional details will be given upon application.
