Welcome to the Most Unique Lighthouse on the Great Lakes
Rising from the crystal-clear waters of northern Lake Michigan, White Shoal Lighthouse is a surreal blend of raw beauty, quiet solitude, and historic wonder. With its iconic red-and-white candy stripe and a front-row view to nature’s most dramatic moments, this is not just a place to visit—it’s a destination you’ll never forget! White Shoal Lighthouse is calling.
Here's what's happening at White Shoal Light in 2026
We are excited to announce that White Shoal Lighthouse has partnered with Pappy's Tours out of Mackinaw City to bring back day tours to White Shoal Light and other offshore lighthouses in the Western Straits. Pappy's will be announcing their tour schedule in March and we will post the link here.
We plan to open the lighthouse in July and will be utilizing our veteran keepers for minimum 1 week commitments. A total of 2 keepers will be assigned to the station throughout the season to support our work crews. Click the volunteer tab for the latest details on volunteering at White Shoal.
Our focus this year will be continuing to upgrade vital operational systems including electrical, plumbing, communications and improving safe access to the station. We also hope to continue exterior painting of the tower after Labor Day.
Details regarding overnight stays in August will be announced in the spring!

White Shoal Light Historical Preservation Society was established in 2016 to restore the Great Lake's tallest lighthouse.
White Shoal Light held its grand opening on July 20th, 2019. This was the first time in her 109-year history the lighthouse was open for public tours. You can look forward to more opportunities to visit White Shoal Light in coming seasons!
Want to volunteer to help our team restore White Shoal Light to her former glory? We offer volunteer keeper & worker bee opportunities to stay and work at the light station. 2026 volunteer options will be announced in January!
